Promise to Scare

I wrote this a few weeks ago before Ignatius Jones died. I was inspired by an online musical friend that had not heard of Jimmy and the Boys.   PROMISE TO SCARE I took Judy back to nineteen seventy nine In my time machine to see a gig Jimmy and the Boys were about to shock With Ignatius Jones taming a pig The club was serving grog Cops were hanging around Getting paid well Nothing illegal was found There was blood everywhere Joylene Thornbird in my hair She thought I was a lair To make me swear Promise to scare! Judy seemed very impressed with me When I offered to buy her a Milkshake So I found a café that was opened at midnight It was across from the nearby lake Then the road crew arrived They were looking for a bream It was a hot summer night So I told them to swim There was blood everywhere Joylene Thornbird in my hair She thought I was a lair To make me swear Promise to scare! Judy had enough and wanted to go back To the future where she...

Yesterdays Engines

This goes back to 2011 when I was living in the Nambucca Valley. YESTERDAYS ENGINES When the Rusty Iron Rally begins The folks of Macksville change gears To welcome machinery with a few ginger beers Yesterdays engines rev To satisfy a Diesel Lair It happens only once a year and they put fireworks in the air Pistons, rings and bearings grind With rhythm that turns on Fred A tap washes his hands To impress a woman dressed in red Yesterdays engines rev And blow smoke everywhere Occupational Safety blokes Loosing all their hair Overalls stained in oil and grease Boots stink of cows done Commentator hogs the P.A. Having truck loads of fun Yesterdays engines rev Rubber smells of wear Love the little old tractor That splashes mud on the Mayor © BESWICK 1/12/2011

Welcome to Queensland (Bowraville)

This goes back to 2009 when a footballer from Bowraville played for Queensland. I believe he played his first professional game in Queensland to make him eligible.  Welcome To Queensland There is a little town you won’t find on the Queensland map Where you can buy a crop of bananas and XXXX on tap Bowraville is a museum inhabited with friendly folks They’ll share a laugh at the pub where they tell awesome jokes You don’t have to turn back the time In summer you can spare a lime Welcome to Paradise Welcome to Queensland There’s a theatre in the town that has been restored It attracts Soldiers and citizens that you can only applaud From Kakoda they come marching along the road Where some folks have even never seen a Cane toad You don’t have to turn back the time In summer you can spare a lime Welcome to Paradise Welcome to Queensland Prelude The verandah posts add character to the main street Make sure you put some shoes on your fe...

Rick's Brew

The file was modified in 2011 and I know I have performed this with a guitar. Possibly at Cafe Au Lait in Macksville  Rick's Brew Rick arrived at the Bowra Hotel With a Casio on his shoulder He's going to sing for us tonight After he fills his mouth with Pasta He's going to try his best Rick's never done this before He only knows a few chords But his words you'll adore Come sing a long and be merry Cause the music's fit for any (I've been told) Only drink an ale or two So the cops don't get you Rick's got a good mate Her name is Susie Smoothy Doesn't drink or smoke or swear Has a friend called Julie But we all look after each other That's what us Aussies do You can always dance even if you don't like the brew Come sing a long and be merry Cause the music's fit for any (I've been told) Only drink an ale or two So the cops don't get you interlude I had a friend once that use to drink and drive He hit ...

Pests at my Door

I remember performing this somewhere. It may have been at the Cafe Au Lait in Macksville PESTS AT MY DOOR I dreamed the other night Aliens arrived from outer space Gate-crashed a barbecue That was held at my place They were pretty cool guys Didn't mean any harm Had something to offer So I rewarded them with my charm “ Do you speak English,” I asked They looked at each other “ What religion are you,” again They looked at each other I didn't feel intimidated And just continued being me They didn't seem to mind and sat relaxed on my settee They taught me a thing or two Maybe three Four or Five Dreaming is just natural I'm so glad to be alive When I woke the sound of knocks Someone was at my door Pale faced bloody Bible sellers Come to rob the poor “ Do you speak English,” I asked They looked at each other “ What religion are you,” again They looked at each other I didn't feel intimidated Didn't realize I was in the nude Th...

Nambucca heads is where you are

This is another song that I buried years ago. NAMBUCCA HEADS IS WHERE YOU ARE There is a place I want you to see Just a short stroke from the sea Spoiled with beauty Everybody will agree The seagulls are swarming Local folks are calling Tourist are dining But I'm going to sing Let me put goose bumps on your skin Even though I'm not Anthony Quinn I've got a voice and a guitar Nambucca Heads is where you are The river you ought to see It runs out to the sea The forest full of trees It's Brush box country Surf Club is welcoming Nippers are encouraging The lives they are saving And I'm going to sing Let me put goose bumps on your skin Even though I'm not Anthony Quinn I've got a voice and a guitar Nambucca Heads is where you are There is a place I want you to see Just a short stroke from the sea Wildlife roaming free Escape to the country Bananas ripening Oysters in the evening Tourist are dining And I am going to sin...

Leongatha

The date on this file was in 2010. I may have intended to re write this or give it a new tile. IN LEONGATHA Spencer street is so tempting When ever I hear the train Although country life for me Is much better for my brain I see the Cows are heading west And the wind is from Inverloch Daylight savings has just ended Time to turn back the clock They dig for worms before dinner Because it's a ritual in Leongatha I sometimes want to get away And other times I want to stay McMartin street has gone silent Don the Farm hand tells a yarn It's the same story as the last one He doesn't mean any harm Autumn leaves are a warning Cold weather is on the way Football season has arrived The Parrots are going to play They dig for worms before dinner Because it's a ritual in Leongatha I sometimes want to get away And other times I want to stay I've tried digging for gold But all I got was a bad back A mate tried to help me He went to get an i...

The Narrabeen Hippy

I wrote this a couple of days ago and yesterday I decided to add an extra verse. The Narrabeen Hippy Kevin wondered around the North Shore when he was a foal He lived on Mullet and sometimes an egg and weed roll Played his guitar in the garage that was painted yellow And grew a long beard to disguise his charming glow He loved the sea, he was a Narrabeen Hippy All the women loved the Narrabeen Hippy He drove a Volkswagen which was so cheap to run You’d sometimes see him burning juice just for fun The mosquitoes were his friends they loved him dearly An environmental leader that lived on herbal tea He loved the sea, he was a Narrabeen Hippy All the women loved the Narrabeen Hippy He moved up to the north coast looking for a job Pretty confident he was better than any hobnob Ended up on a Fishing Trawler living on prawns Had to quit and now he’s mowing lawns He loved the sea, he was a Narrabeen Hippy All the women loved the Narrabeen Hippy Whe...

Nambucca Heads by the Sea

This may have been written in 2010 and entered in the Your town Your Song Competition. It looks like I plagiarized my own work! It works with Santa rides a Moped. NAMBUCCA HEADS BY THE SEA It's the holiday season and nobody is freezin' Nambucca Heads is in the sun Tourist everywhere and lovely fresh air Everybody's having so much fun A river filled with fish, Oysters make a wish Banana Pancakes are alright Friendly folks smile, play golf on the Isle With a fishermen's appetite I'm happy! Surrounded by this gorgeous scenery Never a moment gets dull Just look at the seagulls At the Nambucca Heads by the sea When I first arrived, I was feeling tired From driving on highway one They were welcoming guest, North south and west The Resort was so much fun I'm telling you, their were crabs on the barbecue We were all singin' along I met a fella called Errol and some lovely people They were from Dongdingalong I'm happy! Macksville's Only Dragon Boat

MACKSVILLES ONLY DRAGON BOAT Crabs gathered on the shores To watch me gripping on the oars With partners we will control To bring pleasure to our soul There's not much to explain I'm no longer declared insane My ritual is to keep afloat Macksville's only Dragon Boat All credit goes to the Admiral The worthy cause will never fall It is somewhere great to meet Not just be sour in defeat I believe it all comes from the sun So I intend to endorse the fun My ritual is to keep afloat Macksville's only Dragon Boat I wondered into a Cafe Where lively poets had lots to say I watched the scenic Nambucca River That's full of Mullet in winter shiver It is here that I was about to learn To bow in faith and to be stern My ritual is to keep afloat Macksville's only Dragon Boat © RON BESWICK 2/12/2011

Heavy Rock

This would have been written after I moved to Nambucca Heads in 2003 Heavy Rock I was around when Heavy Rock began Some of you were not even born I grew my hair and loved to dance Played my guitar until dawn I remember Johnny Rotten, a poncy Anarchist From England he trashed the queen Down under we used high voltage And some of the best bands ever seen I was around when Heavy Rock began And leather clad girls were in vogue I’d take them out for a feed and dance My mind would often explode I remember the Beatles and Polytheme Pam From Liverpool they rocked us all Before Angus and Bon flirted with Dirty deeds and a song called Balls I was around when Heavy Rock began We seen a man step on the moon Conspiracy theories were whole lotta fun So I kept on reading the tribune I remember Alice Cooper an American artist He sang schools out forever I listened to him and threw away my books Now I’m as dumb as ever ©Ron Beswick 2009-03-03

Bungwahl

I wrote this when we were living at smiths Lake. I sent it to the Songwriters Association for a critique assessment to get a positive feedback. The sheet had gone missing but it is on their files. I sent this to the ABC Your town your song competition in later years. I've never performed it but you can feel it!  IN BUNGWAHL (THERE”S A BUSH BAND PLAYING) At Bungwahl there's a bush band playing Songs that get you up and dancin' On a tongue and grooved floor Built during the First World War At Bungwahl there's a bushband playing At Bungwahl there's a banjo playing Tunes to get you up and dancin' They'll send some folk up the wall With bare feet boots and all I like punch it gets you singin' ...

Chaos Restaurant

This goes back to 2011 CHAOS RESTAURANT A good selection on the menu At Jim's Seafood Restaurant A customer in Bikinis I still don't know what I want She ordered Mullet and Chips with lemon and Tartar sauce This was just an entree You should have seen her main Course “ What do you recommend,” I asked. She said, “You Talkin' to me.” I said, “My appetite ain't hiding desire For a salubrious tea.” She completely misunderstood What I had just said Got very angry then threatened To punch me in the Head The Chef came out of the kitchen To calm things down He left a fry pan on The place then burned to the ground We all did learn some lesson Especially me I went and wrote this song and I only now eat healthy food for tea © Beswick 3/08/11
