SHINING SILVER CITY

I wrote this in 2023 and sent it to the ASA competition and I've had it critiqued. I was happy with the words but I've not tried it to music. It didn't make the shortlist.

SHINING SILVER CITY

Priscilla arrived in Broken Hill

To be Queen of the shindig

Wearing a fancy silver frock

That blends in with her wig

The streets are decorated

People have travelled far

Puppies by their side

To see this amazing Star

CHORUS

Cross the barrier under the limelight

There’ll be ice cream and jelly tonight

The shining Silver City won’t bite

Cause the shining Silver City is a delight

It’d be nice to get an autograph

Written in glossy lipstick

Lucky I kept my receipt

The Palace was my pick

Weiner Schnitzel and gravy

When it was time to eat

An evening playing piano

Or a dance on Argent Street

CHORUS

Cross the barrier under the limelight

There’ll be ice cream and jelly tonight

The shining Silver City won’t bite

Cause the shining Silver City is a delight

Priscilla is pleasing Broken Hill

Turning heads and fancy wheels

Miners cash in on the fun

Ordering meals on heels

Artist’s contribute to the vibe

With a glamorous bag

Magic tricks and comedy

To love the dude in drag

CHORUS

Cross the barrier under the limelight

There’ll be ice cream and jelly tonight

The shining Silver City won’t bite

Cause the shining Silver City is a delight
