The Freemasons!!

My grandfather was a Freemason but my father never joined. Dad was an Atheist and a lot of his mates were in the lodge but he turned down the invitation whenever he was asked.

A lot of people I've admired have been Freemasons. They include Poets, Musicians, Sportsmen, and Human rights activists. I guess a lot of people I don't admire would also be members.

In my early 20's I met a Butcher who joined and he had nothing good to say about them. He claims to have resigned but I have since learned that you cannot quit the lodge. I could be wrong!

My first memory of Freemasons goes back to a hospital visit where they donated beds. I read somewhere that a lot of them played Rugby Union and less likely Rugby League. Was this a myth?

The catholic church I believe changed the rules which allowed Catholics to become Freemasons. This might explain why they are alleged to hate each other. It's nothing more than a rivalry!

In Sydney the Catholic club and Masonic club were in Castlereagh street. I knew a bloke that would drink in both clubs and exchange coasters for fun. Catholic Club coasters would end up at the Masonic club and Masonic club coasters ended up in the Catholic club.

Some of the cooks on the Abel Tasman were in the lodge. I remember one that did them no favours when he'd show off wearing his apron and acted like a goat. Maybe it was a ritual but some of us thought it was funny!

When my court case was before Vince Bruce a solicitor suggested I join the lodge. I did them a huge favour by not joining and in the end I won my case. If I had joined it would have looked bad!

As you can see I have nothing against the Masons and I still have no intentions of joining.

  1. I forgot to mention an Irishman told me that a lot of Police join the lodge and to work in Scotland yard you need to be a Freemason. He was being coerced to join by an MUA delegate in the Gym on a ship. I was in the toilet and I could hear every word. They left before me and I kept this to myself.
