Sleeping!

I cannot remember when I had a perfect sleep. Nearly 20 years ago when we were living at Smiths Lake the Doctor sent me for a study at Newcastle Hospital. I was all wired up and I never slept at all. The study was about Sleep Apnea which I had but this was a one night experience that I never want to have again. All of the people I spoke to had a history of doing shift work. I had worked on permanent Dog Watch for over 2 years in 1977 and I spent 19 years in the Maritime Industry from 1980.
I've sailed through Roaring Forties, Furious Fifties, Tropical storms and many Cyclones. A Typhoon named Mac was about when I went to Japan in 1982. How do you sleep?
I had an injury in 1989 that resulted in me being on Life Support for 10 days. I broke a few bones and was non weight bearing for 8 months. I had pneumonia and took Amoxicillin for nearly a year. I had to take Panadeine Forte and other medications when I returned to work after nearly 12 months of work. It was a difficult time to cut a long story short.
The year I left the Maritime Industry was the same year my father died. He suffered PTSD which is another story. It's obvious I suffer from Depression which may explain my poor sleeping situation!
Since the injury I've been admitted to hospital many times for Gall bladder surgery, Hernia operations, Leg surgery and other procedures. I keep getting told to loose some weight!
In recent years I've lost over 10 kilo in weight and I plan to loose more.
A few years back I had my 3rd sleep study which encouraged me to get a Cpap machine. It has been known to help me but sometimes I just can't sleep with all the crap. Lately I've gone back to taking Melatonin which I believe has improved things.
Good news is I'm still alive at Sixty and I can still drive and walk for 20 minutes. If I meet a Jeanie I'll wish for a Good Night's Sleep!!
