Yarrahapinni

I cannot find the date I created this. It would have been before 2015     Yarrahapinni I drove up Yarrahapinni Where you overlook a farm It was a pleasant place Until something bit my arm My first thoughts were the fly That landed on my door Then I hear a buzz A Mozzie! So I declared war I looked in the glove box For some insect repellent But grabbed the wrong stuff It was nice and pleasant I sprayed my arms and legs Then realised what I'd done No longer I'd keep my cool I went looking for my gun The day was disappearing It was evening and dark I couldn't find my bullets Pleased I'm not in Iraq So I got back in the car Squashed every single Mozzie Then I headed for home With bad memories on Yarrahapinni

Captain Reid

This goes back to 2013 and I may have written other variations. Captain Reid discovered Lake Macquarie on his colonial built sailing ship called Martha. CAPTAIN REID Captain Reid made a mistake When he steered towards the coast He thought it was the river Seen a bloke to be his host Caught a fish and said hello Introduced himself as Ned Invited Reid to dinner Who couldn't resist the spread Captain Reid enjoyed himself Ned was such a bloke Fed the Pelicans on the lake Before he discovered coke He toasted to the future Before Martha hit the trail Back to Sydney town With a bucket of coal for sale R Beswick ©2013

Cliff

I wrote this after cliff died and the dragons didn't win that grand final. Cliff Before cliff passed We escaped the flood Arrived in Dubbo Car covered in mud A few sad moments To share the grief For a humble ending To fix pain relief A fond memory Is the help and advice In between bouts Of professional fights A prediction lies ahead He left us with baffle Now you know the Dragons Will win this year’s grand final ©Ron Beswick 2009-04-06

Love Doesn't fall of the Back of a Truck

This was entered in the songwriters competition and I wrote this for a woman to sing. It goes back before 2014 LOVE DOESN'T FALL OF THE BACK OF A TRUCK I met a fella at a rodeo He was surrounded by flies, And wore an imported cowboy hat. His shirt was stained With a bit of tomato sauce, He seemed like a spoiled brat. He wanted my name I would not give it to him, Then he offered to buy me a drink. I turned him down, My horse would be proud I gave lip thanks to my instinct. So listen to me now If you want me to be your cow You'll need more than the brains of a Duck. As a fully trained Jillaroo It's my pleasure to tell you Love Doesn't Fall of the Back of a Truck! He admitted that he was single I believe that! His shirt still with it's price tag. He continued to flirt But did not like it, When I called him a Dirty Dag. He pulled out his wallet To impress me, It was filled with lots of cash. His boots r...

The Albatross

The Albatross goes back before 2017 when I was still doing work at 2NVR. The Albatross Behind the stern flies a giant bird Beautiful to watch, the oceans boss When the swell disappears Who do you thank? An old Boson spirit returns As an albatross If I could take a picture now I would take a bow Take a bow for the Albatross No land in sight so we watch the bird That wishes us luck as we sail the lane Some will discharge, with money to spend And when it’s gone, there’ll be miserable pain If I could do something now I’d walk to the bow Walk to the bow for the Albatross Beswick

Wee Tribute

I'm not sure when I wrote this but I visited Scotland in 2008 and 2018 to be inspired. I just corrected some spelling and can you guess who I'm thinking of.  Wee Tribute From a beautiful place is Scotland he grew Where brave men would often blew He wrote down stuff that could paint a picture When he walked around Edinburgh I don't need to broadcast this fellows name I was told chasing women was his game But I believe the rumours were a dim The women were actually chasing him He was a hero to women and the men Who get together and celebrate often Raising their glasses filled with a drink And point to the lucky stars that wink I'm inspired by this fella and his mind Who work wonderful ways to unwind So now I write down stuff to fill my time And I do my best to make things rhyme

Life in Bellingen

This was on a file I created in 2011 that was buried in my drive. I just found it! LIFE IN BELLINGEN You don't need a four wheel drive or a caravan to enjoy life in Bellingen They grow there own Tomatoes and play the drums in Bellingen I know some folks that hang around the shops Send peaceful messages to the Cops That's life in Bellingen They wash hair in organic soap That's made locally in Bellingen There's even a store that trades in hearts and that's in Bellingen I know some folks that hang around the shops Send peaceful messages to the Cops That's life in Bellingen I walked in poo that was left behind by an animal when I was in Bellingen It was raining heavy and it was rather smelly when I was in Bellingen I know some folks that pray for us all To win the lottery and have a ball That's life in Bellingen Prelude The promised land is nearby You lay on your back you'll see the sky Words by Beswick

Swansea Boy

This file was created in 2011 but I never published it until now. The Swansea Boy I was a Swansea boy That used to jump off the Bridge Swim in the Channel That was loaded with Fish I caught a bus into town That'd cost me a silver In a Working Class City With coal to deliver Now things have changed The conservatives in rule I find this a bit strange All the Toffs think it's cool The fish have all gone And Crustaceans have not Boats have disappeared Everyone has a Yacht

Boat

This goes back to 2011 when we were broadcasting at the café in Macksville. BOAT I once built a boat So I can take to the water Made from labour and ply To impress all the daughters She's become my close mate I named her Caroline I want the world to know She's absolutely mine I found a perfect spot To Anchor my little boat I'd watch the Mullet jump I'm the envy of any bloke I relax and breathe deep Don't the shores look fantastic Put my skills to practice It's as good as being romantic I caught some big fish In my boat that I made She gives me tucker for a week My one and only accolade You should see her go With the outboard that I bought Forget the cat walk beauties My girl is a real sort beswick 04/2011

Nambucca Heads

This may have been sent to Your Town Your Song back in 2010. At the time I was living in Hyland Park. NAMBUCCA HEADS Paddling up the river on a glorious day I pass a friend going the other way Seagulls watch as they glide above me Spreading their wings so peacefully I feel mesmerized when I reach the shore Greeted by little crabs armed and ready for war Instead of riffles they've got claws It's the Nambucca River that I adore I live in Nambucca Heads This is my home town I live in Nambucca Heads A pretty little town Up the hill I walk I look at the ocean I'm in the most beautiful place to imagine Nambucca Heads is where I am at It's a secret I keep under my hat I feel mesmerized when I see the shore Getting bashed by waves from a sea bore I could paint a picture or two, three, or four It's Nambucca Heads that I adore I live in Nambucca Heads This is my home town I live in Nambucca Heads A pretty little town Prelude When I rest at n...

Tewinga

This goes back to 2010 and I've done nothing much more with it.  TEWINGA There's a place on the way to Bowraville that has a tiny hall Folks go there not to play bingo but have themselves a ball You can dance, you can mime, if you think you can't sing You can bring along some noise if you feel like practicing We're in Tewinga, you never know who you'll meet In Tewinga, with the right boots on your feet I Love Tewinga, and anything that is sweet Tewinga, they don't even have a main street The sheep sing along to the Beach Boys Ba Babara an And if our country music jamboree all goes to plan We'll invite the whole of Australia and have a barbecue I know a social butterfly that would like to meet you We're in Tewinga, you never know who you'll meet In Tewinga, with the right boots on your feet I Love Tewinga, and anything that is sweet Tewinga, they don't even have a main street Why not grab your lagerphone and beat o...

Novocastrean Sweat

I may have wrote a few versions of this over the years. This goes back to 2010 NOVOCASTRIAN SWEAT I was born just a breath away from the ocean Near a beach that is popular for surfin' My youth days were filled with excitement In Newcastle they're not short of entertainment The blue collar boys taught me all about life Not to forget some migrants that I knew from Fife The steelworks once contributed to the bread But no longer they do something else instead But now I've moved away And I'll go back there some day You know I've no regret Growing up on Novocastrian Sweat I got some friends they worked in a coal mine They remember the strike back in 1949 And had to struggle to buy food and groceries Helped by friends that worked in factories They play a guitar and sing songs to greet When busking in the mall in Hunter street Ambassadors of nightlife fill the tavern I've never ever driven an FJ Holden But now I've moved away And ...

Dubbo

This was written for the Your Town Your Song competition. DUBBO A drover once told me the western plains is like a store They Sell everything and it's worthy to explore With a flannelette shirt and a wallet and some dough I'm going to brush shoulders with the folk of Dubbo You can fry from the thing in the sky Dig a hole you don't always die It's an adventure being in Dubbo You want to see a chimpanzee A dried up creek, get stung by a bee It's good fun being in Dubbo Galahs are about they harass all the tourist they greet They fly around the old pub that's in Talbragar street Must buy a drink, a feed and a rifle that shoots And something to get the done of me boots You can fry from the thing in the sky Dig a hole you don't always die It's an adventure being in Dubbo You want to see a chimpanzee A dried up creek, get stung by a bee It's good fun being in Dubbo With healthy fresh air and a tree with lots of shade I...

Telegraph Point Is The Place

This were also written for the Your Town Your Song competition. I did a performance there which helped my imagination.  TELEGRAPH POINT IS THE PLACE I played to an audience at Telegraph point On the Maria river, it was a beautiful day The old butter factory was serving treats But someone forgot the chardonnay It didn't bother me, No! No! It didn't bother me at all I'd rather drink juice filled with vitamins So I don't wake up with pain at all Picnic atmosphere And music to satisfy your ear Away from concrete and the rat race Telegraph Point is the place Neville wore his Collingwood shirt But had nothing to say about yesterday He was enjoying the choice of music He also enjoyed the peaceful Sunday I wished him luck before I left I wished him luck! Mate I played one more song for the road A song before it gets to late Picnic atmosphere And music to satisfy your ear Away from concrete and the rat race Telegraph Point is the place T...

Girralong

This was entered in Your town your song competition but was not successful. GIRRALONG Up in the hills west of Bowraville is a place called Girralong It's not a town or village but a Hamlet That has a Billabong Lawrie lives up there with his dog, his parrot and a sheep And he listens to the radio all day up until he goes to sleep He rings up Fiona to report district gossip From his neighbors chook yard Shes our local breakfast announcer and begins the day with a giggle and laugh Filled with pot holes and roadkill and a farmer selling cow done Girralong is worth a look Girralong is number one Girralong might only be small With not a shop to buy stuff like ham And The place may one day vanish If they go ahead and build this dam The chooks are getting restless A rumour's spreading they are forming a union With the sheep they'll stand united So they'll never fall in my opinion Harldly anybody lives in Girralong and in winter they tell...

Mackay is Where I Roam

I wrote these lyrics when Kim Honan was in Mackay. I never took it any further and it may change if I included music.  MACKAY IS WHERE I ROAM Smelling the sweat of a cane cutter With an out of control Thirst At the Metropolitan Hotel A sense of humour that's about to burst Drinking only local Mango juice Before I drive home On a Witty Sunday evening Mackay is where I roam Other days I work for my pleasure Around a mining economy With tourist buying food Fish that looks so healthy It's so beautiful up here With happiness syndrome I want to buy a yacht Mackay is where I roam Prelude The paddocks are full of sugar Oh! what an atmosphere Shellfish on the barbeque I'm so glad that I am here A tropical gardeners paradise Is what you see in the street Shady trees full of birds Their whistle is really sweet Then rain comes with thunder When I arrive at home It's a colourful sky in Mackay is where I roam © Ron Beswick 22/06/2011

Hippy Train

I have performed this in a garage somewhere and once I almost did a recording. It needs a good production with dynamics and a key change. Not to forget the chromatic chord progression.   HIPPIE TRAIN Central Station one morning, I seen an old nun Standing near a tramp who was feeding a pigeon I'm getting ready before my train to Casino Departs I bought my one way ticket just when an old man farts A soldier returning from duty, sat next to me He seemed a bit sad and I bet he's glad to be free He drank some beer with an ice cream I then fell asleep and I began to dream I'm heading North today In car D instead of A I'm on the Hippie Train On the Hippie Train I went into the jungle, dressed in fake leather Before I woke up dazed in tropical weather The soldier was missing never again in my sights Maybe he got of to sort out the Newcastle Nights I'm heading North today In car D instead of A I'm on the Hippie Train On the Hippie Train We...

It can only happen in Nimbin

This was written and performed before 2010. I used a simple progression using chromaticism to give it a feeling. I had visited Nimbin once to see Lara Stephens perform with Jesse Younan and Tim Ireland.  IT CAN ONLY HAPPEN IN NIMBIN There were flies getting about when I ordered a hamburger in Nimbin They were hanging around a hippie dude I'm sure that they like him I seen a cockroach on a leash tied up to a pole in the main street And a curious policeman on a push bike he was just protecting his beat I'm not dreaming right now I'll swear on a picture of a cow The things that you see in Nimbin It can only happen in Nimbin I ate my meal before I met Rosemary she was once crowned miss Nimbin She was a conservative vegetarian told me eating meat was a sin Only her opinion we shared peanuts then we massaged each others feet People were out selling raffle tickets the major prize was a mysterious treat I'm not dreaming right now I'll swear on a...

Small Dog Syndrome

Small Dog Syndrome is another song that was recorded in Terry Simpsons studio at Taylors Arm. I wrote the words and Terry thought Rottie was better than Rottweiler. He also came up with the chord progression and sang the melody.   SMALL DOG SYNDROME My feelings are sour she’s left me for less The fridge is so empty the house is a mess But I still got my dog she sits on my knee Barks at the Gum trees on this property She's got the heart of a Rottie the body of a Rat When she stands over her bone She’s got Small Dog Syndrome The milk has gone sour and no one cares less My wallet is empty oh may God bless But I still got my dog she sits on my knee Bites at the damn flees that roam her small body She's got the heart of a Rottie the body of a Rat When she stands over her bone She’s got Small Dog Syndrome Interlude Some dogs hurt and draw blood when they fight But a Mexican Chihuahua just aint got the bight My feelings a...
